Elder Larry Grant, of mixed Chinese and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) ancestry, was born on a hop field in Agassiz, BC, and raised in Musqueam territory. After retiring as a longshoreman, he enrolled in UBC’s First Nations Language Program to reconnect with his mother’s ancestral language, hən’q’əmin’əm’. He serves as Elder-in-Residence at UBC’s First Nations House of Learning and is a Faculty Fellow at St. John’s College.
